Started With One Excavator, Built a Company
In 2008, Mark left a site supervisor position at a large civil construction outfit in Kelowna. Not because the work was bad — but because he kept hearing the same thing from homeowners and builders: "Nobody returns my call. Nobody can tell me when they'll actually show up."
He figured he could do better. Lisa handled the books and scheduling, they leased their first excavator, and Bedrock Excavation Co. was born out of a driveway and a reputation for showing up when they said they would.
The first year was all small residential digs — foundation prep, septic installs, driveway grading — the work the bigger outfits didn't want to bother with. But Mark showed up on time, dug to spec, and walked every client through exactly what he was doing and why. People noticed. They told their builders.
Seventeen years later, it's a team of 12, a yard on Benvoulin Road loaded with excavators, loaders, and dump trucks, and a reputation that still runs on the same fuel: do what you say you're going to do.

Not Working Out of a Pickup Truck
Our yard on Benvoulin Road houses excavators, skid steers, compact loaders, dump trucks, and all the attachments we need so most jobs start without rental delays. We keep GPS grade control equipment, compaction testing tools, and utility locating gear ready to roll every morning.

One Excavator, One Operator
Mark left his site supervisor job at a large civil construction company, leased a mid-size excavator, and started taking calls. Lisa handled the books and answered the phone from home.
Growing By Referral
Word of mouth took hold with local builders. The team grew to 3 and the first dump truck joined the fleet. The home office got replaced by a proper dispatch setup.
Commercial Work Begins
Took on the first commercial site preparation projects. Invested in GPS grade control and larger equipment, opening up subdivisions and commercial pads.
The Benvoulin Road Yard
Moved into the current facility on Benvoulin Road. Finally had room for the growing fleet, material storage, and a proper maintenance bay for the machines.
1,500 Projects and Counting
Hit a milestone nobody was counting but everybody felt. Fifteen hundred sites dug, graded, and prepped — and most new calls still came from builders we'd worked with before.
A Crew of 12
The team grew to 12 certified operators. The guys who started as labourers in 2011? They're now lead operators running their own crews across the Okanagan.
